NEW-IMPROVED MILTON ROAD WELCOMED BY LOCALS, COMMUTERS AND COUNCILLORS

Local ward councillors have welcomed investment in a local road that provides easier and alternative access to Liverpool Shopping Park and prevents congestion on Edge Lane, Liverpool.

The Derwent Group, the developer behind the new Liverpool Shopping Park, invested £10m in improving local roads as part of the area’s regeneration, including the Edge Lane junction with Milton Road. The newly improved Milton Road now includes traffic controls at the junction with Edge Lane, has been extended into a four-lane carriageway and links with Binns Road, Crawford Way and Pighue Lane.

Russell Hall, general manager of Liverpool Shopping Park said: “We’ve carried out a lot of work on Milton Road to improve the flow of traffic in the immediate area and to ease congestion on Edge Lane.

“Milton Road still gives people access to Dryden Road and the technology park, but now it also provides an additional route into Liverpool Shopping Park and an important link to Binns Road, Crawford Way and Pighue Lane, plus an alternative way to reach Wavertree too.

“It has always been our intention to be a good neighbour and we’ve taken our responsibilities seriously. By working closely with Liverpool City Council, our investment in the local road infrastructure should deliver benefits for everyone involved – especially local residents and commuters.”

Childwall councillor, Frank Hont said: “Local residents experienced disruption and traffic problems during the construction of the new Liverpool Shopping Park so it’s great to see that partnership between the developer and City Council has led to this much-needed improvement.”

Old Swan councillor, Peter Brennan said: “We have worked tirelessly with the developers, Liverpool City Council’s Highways and Traffic Management department and Mayor Anderson during all phases of the development of Liverpool Shopping Park, to ensure residents’ views and concerns were taken into view, which has led to this new improvement.”

Since the new-improved Milton Road opened on Friday October 20th, it is estimated that more than 15,000 cars have used it to reach Liverpool Shopping Park. The park achieved its 15,000th road user last week and the lucky shopper, Rita Thompson from Huyton, was gifted a bunch of flowers to mark the milestone.

Liverpool Shopping Park’s first retailers (Smyths Toys, Boots, H&M, JD Sports and Outfit) opened on October 20th and have been quickly followed by River Island, Subway, Chiquito and Regatta amongst others.  Further store openings are planned for the months ahead including Next, M&S Food Hall and TK Maxx.

Liverpool Shopping Park is part of the Albert Gubay Charitable Foundation.
